Author: Saint John Eudes
Translated by Charles Di Targiani and Ruth Hauser
The Admirable Heart of Mary was the first book written on the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Saint John Eudes, whom Pope Pius XI called “a wonderful herald of eternal truths,” was the leading proponent in the seventeenth century of the devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary; he wrote the propers to the Mass and Divine Office for the devotion as well as composing litanies, salutations, and consecrations for its practice. In The Admirable Heart of Mary, Eudes develops a spiritual treatise on the nature, object, and expressions of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In the saint’s inspired fashion, he makes the sublime truths of revelation and tradition simple, familiar, and practical.
